The incident occurred shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday when police responded to a report of a murder on Manhattan Avenue and West 107th Street. Officers arrived at the scene to find a 37-year-old man, who was later identified as Steven Gadsden, who suffered a gunshot wound to the torso.

Gadsden was taken to Mount Sinai Saint Luke Hospital, where he was unable to survive due to his serious injuries. When police responded to the scene, the shooting suspect, identified as Cardell Gadsden, a 30-year-old employee of the New York City Department of Corrections. He had fled, but then returned and was arrested.

According to the investigation, Cardell, Steven, and a third man were having an argument while riding in a blue minivan before the driver pulled over on Manhattan Avenue..

Two of the men got out of the vehicle and exchanged words, at which point gunshots were heard.
