Detectives arrested Elliahs Dorsey, 27, on preliminary charges of murder and attempted murder in the Thursday slaying of Officer Breann Leath, 24, police said. It wasn’t immediately known whether Dorsey had a lawyer who could comment.

A man has been arrested in connection with the shooting death of an Indianapolis officer on a domestic violence call, police said Friday.

Officer Breann Leath, 24, was responding to a domestic incident at an apartment at 1803 Edinburgh Square when she was shot.

Officers were called to the apartment for a domestic incident, IMPD Assistant Chief Chris Bailey said. When they arrived, shots were fired and the officer and a female inside the apartment were shot.

Leath was among three officers who answered the call Thursday afternoon in an apartment on the eastern edge of Indianapolis, police said. When officers knocked on the apartment door, they shot through the structure, hitting Leath, police said. The other officers led Leath to a safe area and found the second woman who had been shot, police said. Officers located and detained Dorsey, who was detained without further incident, police said.
