Michael Gotovac Wiki – Michael Gotovac Bio

Michael Gotovac had worked at Dan Tana’s since 1968, making him one of the oldest bartenders in Los Angeles. In a 2015 Eater interview, Gotovac shared some of the famous people he served for decades, including Elton John, Johnny Carson, and Liz Taylor. Five years ago, Gotovac had reduced his work schedule to just two days a week, feeling physically strong but mentally tired and choosing to spend more time with his family.

Michael Gotovac Born in Croatia (then part of Yugoslavia) in 1943 in a small town called Lećevica, Gotovac traveled to Germany for work in 1964 before landing in Los Angeles in 1967, where he was part of the American Croatian community. His passions were Croatian freedom and soccer, also working for the Croatian Radio Program, published by the Croatian Catholic Church of Saint Anthony, where he was a parishioner. Over the years, although he was known as a committed bartender at Dan Tana, he devoted his time and effort to his family, especially his grandchildren. “His patience with them and his joy at seeing them happy, well-fed and entertained had no limits,” according to the restaurant’s tribute.

One of the best stories from his 2015 interview was about John Travolta, in which the famous actor had tried to skip the line to enter the star-studded restaurant. Gotovac said: “John Travolta came in once, went to the maitre d ‘and asked for a table for two. They told him there would be a two-hour wait, so Travolta says:” You know, do you know who I am? “And the maitre d’ says, “I don’t need to know who you are, I need to know if my boss knows who you are. Well, Travolta left the place! Then he comes back, apologizes for saying those things, and sure enough, he got a table right away. ”
